iPhone 4 Announced

The new iPhone was announced today. Of course the hype is impressive. The phone will have Facetime (wifi-based video calling), a 960x640 display, multi-tasking, and HD video editing and playback, all on a new OS (details here).

Of course, it will take time to decide if it is open enough for those who value openness and I do at some level. No announcement on adding cellular carries that I saw or heard.

Over the next few days I will try to consider how the iPhone4 might be used as an educational tool. What type of learning can it enable?

What is your initial reaction to the announcement?

  1. My initial reaction: I love it and I'm getting one on June 24th. I don't have much to say about the education factor, though.

  2. If I can work out the details on my current contract I am going to get one as well.

  3. There aren't too many things I can think of that a laptop or an IPAD would not be able to achieve. For teachers, roll marking springs to mind. It would be a great deal easier to carry around an excel document or an intranet based document that allows you to mark your roll when you are using the computer in the classroom for another activity. For kids, certain apps are fantastic to have as educational tools. As an English teacher a portable dictionary and thesaurus would be ideal to have ready access to. There are some fun word apps that could also encourage a healthy competition at the beginning or end of a lesson...
